All About Wireless Microphone Headsets
Ditching the Cord
Wireless microphone headsets are basically wireless headphones with microphone attached. They’re usually used by folks who want to talk on the phone and keep their hands free at the same time. People like customer service representatives and other people whose jobs involve a lot of phone-time find headsets –whether they’re wireless microphone headsets, or just regular headsets with wires- really handy.
While there might be a lot of different brands and models for headsets, they can basically be classified into three types, according to what they’re being used for:
- Computer headsets –these are especially useful for VoIP
- Fixed-line or landline telephone headsets and
- Cell phone headsets.
Telephone headsets can’t replace whole phones by themselves. You’ll still pretty much need a phone to connect your headset to so that you can use it. This is obviously true for both cell phones and computers.
Most of the time, when people say “wireless microphone headsets,” they usually mean the kind used for computers. When you’re looking for good wireless microphone headsets, one thing to remember is that they can be prone to interference, especially if you’re using one that interfaces with your computer, phone, or cell phone using 2.4 GHz radio frequency or Bluetooth is that they can be a little bit prone to interference. They’ll also usually have a limited range, and the sound quality normally isn’t as good as a headset that connects to your computer, phone, or cell phone using a wire or a direct to USB port. This is why most wireless microphone headsets are only used for talking or chatting online.
Headsets have both stereo and mono options, but depending on a phone’s or computer’s operating system, you might not be able to listen to music using a wireless microphone headset. If you want a Bluetooth wireless microphone headset that will allow you to listen to music, try looking for one that has an A2DP profile. These kinds of headsets will usually automatically turn off a wireless microphone headset’s microphone when you’re listening to music, but the sound quality will usually be higher.
